TelLab leads EU LIFE funded project
TE Laboratories Ltd is the coordinating beneficiary of the international consortium that has successfully obtained a LIFE 2018 innovation grant, awarded by the European Commission, for the Life Ecosens Aquamonitrix project. The objective is the industrialization of a multiparametric measuring device for contaminants present in water, using microfluidics technology. It is a small device with the capacity to take samples and analyse water quality parameters, mainly nutrients, as well as others of interest included in the Water Framework Directive. Its application can focus on river quality monitoring, process control in wastewater treatment plants and quality control of discharges without prior infrastructure, without supervision and with real-time data.
The consortium led by TE Laboratories Ltd is made up of the Finnish company Kemira, the Spanish companies LKS Ingeniería and ISEA, and the Spanish University, Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), as well as the Portuguese Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Various administrations are also participating in the project as collaborators, including the Bilbao Water Consortium, Aguas del Añarbe and AMVISA, which will make their facilities available for carrying out the tests.
The Kick-off Meeting for the Ecosens Aquamonitrix project was held on 8th of October 2018 in T.E. Laboratories’ premises, in Tullow, Ireland. After a visit to the laboratories, each of the partners had the chance to present their organization and their role during the project. Then the consortium held a fruitful discussion about the project tasks, deliverables and deadlines.
The next steps are the manufacture of the prototypes and the demonstration activities across Europe, which start in February 2019.
