TelLab has a 30-year track-record, carrying out environmental analysis for compliance with local and national guidelines at industrial and commercial sites, as well as for local authorities and national regulators.

We are ISO 9001 certified (view certificate here ), and our Environmental Laboratory is accredited for chemical analysis by INAB – the Irish National Accreditation Board – to standard ISO 17025.

We also operate a microbiology laboratory for the microbial analysis of fresh and effluent water.

We carry out surface water, groundwater and effluent discharge analysis for

  • Trade Effluent Discharge Licensing
  • IE/IPC Licensing
  • Government agencies, local authorities, landfill sites, wastewater treatment plants, forestry services and renewable energy projects
  • We also perform Bergerhoff dust monitoring analysis.

Trade Effluent Discharge Licence

Trade effluent is any liquid waste (other than domestic wastewater and storm water) that is discharged from a business premises to the public sewers. Trade effluent may contain materials such as fats, oils and grease, chemicals, detergents, heavy metal rinses or food waste.

Under Section 16 of the Local Government (Water Pollution) Act 1977 (as amended), an individual or business may not discharge a trade effluent to the sewer except in accordance with a licence issued under these regulations.

Licences for discharges to waters are issued by the local authorities while licences for discharges to sewers have been issued by Irish Water, in consultation with local authorities, since January, 2014.

Integrated Pollution Prevention & Control (IPPC) Licence

Governed by the Environmental Protection Agency, a system of Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) licensing came into effect in Ireland on 12 July 2004. The primary aims of IPPC licensing are to prevent or reduce emissions to air, water and land, to reduce waste and to use energy efficiently.

At TelLab, we can help you fulfil your IPPC licence obligations by analysing your surface water, groundwater and effluent water discharge.

Samples can be taken either by our qualified environmental service engineers using the correct PPE and following strict health & safety guidelines.

Samples collected must be returned to our environmental laboratory within 24 hours of the sample been collected. Failure to meet this time frame will require the sample to be retaken.

Bergerhoff Dust
Monitoring

Bergerhoff Dust Monitoring must be carried out at many EPA-regulated facilities around the country. These include licenced waste facilities, IPPC licenced facilities and also during the construction works of large-scale infrastructure projects.

The Bergerhoff dust method is a way of measuring air-bourne dust-fall occurring from man-made activities that may contribute to environmental adverse effects.

The monitoring involves leaving the jar outside in a fixed location for a period of 30 days, during which time any airborne particles are deposited into the jar along with rainfall.

After the 30 days, the jars are removed and brought back to our accredited laboratory for analysis. Here the samples are analysed using gravimetric and evaporative means to give a final result. We then provide a full report and interpretation of results in a format acceptable to the EPA and Local Authorities. This result is expressed as mg/m2/day.
