2020 Date Announced for Transformer Oil Analysis Course

One-day training course – 20 May, 2020

A programme of regular oil sampling and analysis plays a vital role in ongoing transformer condition monitoring and, critically, help to ensures the maximum availability, reliability and lifetime of transformer assets.

Recognising this,  T.E.Laboratories (TelLab) has teamed up with Laborelec in Belgium to provide a one-day Transformer Oil Analysis Training Course that will enable you to:

• Define and implement a programme of oil analysis to monitor the condition of transformers.

• Understand and interpret oil analysis reports and implement maintenance recommendations.

Content of the training

The training starts with a half-day theoretical session addressing various aspects of transformer condition assessment:
• Why perform transformer oil analyses?
• What are the main oil and paper degradation mechanisms?
• Which analyses apply to which types of transformers?
• Why perform different kind of analyses at different frequency?
• What is the best frequency for conducting the analyses?
• How should the test results be interpreted: trending, comparison with international standards, etc?
• How can the results be used to create and implement a maintenance action plan?

In the afternoon, there will be a visit to our oil analysis laboratory. In addition, we will work through a number of case studies to highlight the interpretation of results and formulation of recommendations.

Life Project Kick Off Meeting

TE Laboratories Ltd leads a LIFE funded project.

TE Laboratories Ltd is the coordinating beneficiary of the international consortium that has successfully obtained a LIFE 2018 innovation grant, awarded by the European Commission, for the Life Ecosens Aquamonitrix project. The objective is the industrialization of a multiparametric measuring device for contaminants present in water, using microfluidics technology. It is a small device with the capacity to take samples and analyse water quality parameters, mainly nutrients, as well as others of interest included in the Water Framework Directive. Its application can focus on river quality monitoring, process control in wastewater treatment plants and quality control of discharges without prior infrastructure, without supervision and with real-time data.

The consortium led by TE Laboratories Ltd is made up of the Finnish company Kemira, the Spanish companies LKS Ingeniería and ISEA, and the Spanish University, Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), as well as the Portuguese Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Various administrations are also participating in the project as collaborators, including the Bilbao Water Consortium, Aguas del Añarbe and AMVISA, which will make their facilities available for carrying out the tests.

The Kick-off Meeting for the Ecosens Aquamonitrix project was held on 8th of October 2018 in T.E. Laboratories’ premises, in Tullow, Ireland. After a visit to the laboratories, each of the partners had the chance to present their organization and their role during the project. Then the consortium held a fruitful discussion about the project tasks, deliverables and deadlines.

The next steps are the manufacture of the prototypes and the demonstration activities across Europe, which start in February 2019.

The LIFE ECOSENS AQUAMONITRIX project has received funding from the LIFE programme of the European Union under Grant number LIFE 17 ENV/IE/000237.

Reliability Ireland 2019 launches

Cork venue, new themes, and a special discounted ticket rate

Following Reliability Ireland 2016 and 2017, and Reliability UK in 2018, TelLab is bringing this leading conference to the Radisson Blu, Cork, on March 26 on 27, 2019.

Reliability Ireland is a 2-day learning and networking conference for engineers responsible for maintenance, reliability, continuous improvement, condition monitoring or asset management in the manufacturing, power generation and fleet management sectors.

As a super-early-bird special, we are offering a reduced rate for delegates who register before 1 February 2019, providing a discount of €100 on the standard ticket price.

The focus of this year’s event

This year’s Reliability Ireland conference is based around three themes designed to respond to the most critical information and knowledge gaps engineers in industry are seeking to address right now.

  • 21st Century Condition Monitoring and Preventative Maintenance
  • Next-Generation Reliability & Asset Management for Industry 4.0
  • Strategy, leadership, training, and culture for reliability project success

With an engaging mix of presentations from world-class subject matter experts, the conference will feature

  • Case studies from practising engineers who have walked the walk
  • How-to sessions from international trainers and subject matter experts
  • Site visits aimed at learning from best practice in relevant industries
  • An exhibition area, with suppliers of reliability-centered products and services, demonstrating new launches and approaches
  • An entertaining social programme to unwind and build your professional network

Conference venue

Following on from previous conference venues – Kilkenny, Dublin, and Manchester – this year we are bringing the event to Cork. With global names such as Apple, Pfizer, and Amazon, the southwest region is home to 158 multinational companies. Cork’s business strengths include life sciences & food, technology and a growing marine and energy cluster, and we plan to integrate these sectoral focuses into the agenda.

The conference hotel, the Radisson Blu, is conveniently located just miles from Cork City.  Cork International Airport is approximately a 15-minute drive away, and Kent Train Station, situated at the outskirts of the city centre, is less than a 15-minute drive or taxi ride from the hotel.

About the organiser

This is the fourth major reliability-focused conference to be presented by T.E. Laboratories. A multi-divisional Irish SME, driven by a passion for chemistry and innovation, TelLab’s thought-leadership position in the reliability field stems from its status as Ireland’s only specialised oil analysis laboratory, accredited to ISO 9001:2015 standards. We provide machine lubrication and transformer oil analysis services and training as a tool in condition monitoring and predictive maintenance for major clients across industry, power generation and large-scale fleet operations.

EPA reports creches, nursing homes and hotels using their own wells for drinking water could pose a serious health risk

An EPA report focusing on the quality of private water supplies in Ireland has found that the quality of drinking water in private supplies remains poorer than that in public supplies. The report, released today, also shows that monitoring of private supplies remains inadequate.

Commenting on the findings, Dr Tom Ryan, Director of the EPA’s Office of Environmental Enforcement, said that he was concerned about the continuing poor quality of drinking water in private supplies serving commercial or public activities such as crèches, nursing homes and hotels.

“The consumption of water of unknown quality poses a serious health risk to consumers, particularly vulnerable people such as the young and elderly,” Dr Ryan warned.

The only way to tell if your drinking water is safe is by having it tested at a certified laboratory. Harmful bacteria, parasites and viruses are invisible to the naked eye, so water that looks and tastes good may not necessarily be safe to drink.

TelLab is an INAB Accredited Environmental Laboratory and can perform drinking water analysis  for well grants as well as to assess the general quality of your water. We provide a full service of supplying bottles, carrying out all analysis and providing a full explanation of drinking water results.

To have your drinking water tested:

  • Call us for a quote on 059 91 52881 or email us
  • Call our office or fill out the online contact form for your FREE Sample Bottle test kit (All kits come with instructions and a form to be completed before submitting your samples)
  • Fill the bottles, complete the form and return to TelLab within 6 hours
  • Pay onsite via credit card, cheque or cash
  • Sample results will be issued within 12 working days. Reports are issued in electronic and hard copy format.
